#MTOS: Enter Sandman – The Works of Adam Sandler

So, here’s a surprise for a few folk – a whole #MTOS about Adam Sandler.

For those unaware, Sandler is a name not mentioned often around me.  I have quite a dislike of the guy, in a large way.  I’m often told that his ‘earlier films’ are really good – they aren’t.  I’m often asked how I can hate Wedding Singer – easy…it’s garbage (and has Drew Barrymore in it – another star I can live without on screen)!  I was once told by a close friend that Waterboy was hilarious – that friends had to apologise after making me suffer so much!

And yet, Sandler is one of my favourite actors!  No, seriously, I like to think that there are two Adam Sandlers, the one who is in awful comedies, and the one who acts his socks off in films like Reign Over Me, Punch Drunk Love, The Meyerowitz Stories, and Funny People.  This is part of the frustration for me – Sandler shows such great talent, but wastes his time (in my opinion) on fart and piss jokes in mediocre comedies.

But, when you think about it, doesn’t such a contrasting range of emotions make for an interesting discussion point?  Now, I’ve been contemplating this #MTOS for a while, but it was the discovery last weekend of how Sandler is actually damned funny in stand-up, via the Netflix special just released, that made me more determined to do a week dedicated to him.  The hope is that those who hate him (as I do) may find some enticement to give him another try on a few things they may not have seen.

So, join me this Sunday 4th November at 8pm UK time (just after Doctor Who) as we see what we all think of Sandler, and look to see if anyone will own up to liking Jack And Jill!
