#MTOS: October Week 1 – Nightmares

It’s that time of the year again, when we all start working through lists of horror films and franchises to rewatch as many as possible before the month ends. It is also, as #MTOS regulars will know, the month where we try to theme each week around the horror topic (sometimes quite tenuously). For this month I’m planning to theme each week around a horror franchise, with questions about the franchise itself, or the creatives who worked on it.

So, kicking off this week I picked out the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise to draw some questions from. Join me on Sunday 2nd October on Twitter at 8pm to answer along to the following questions as we fire one out every 10 minutes. All are welcome to join in, and there are no right or wrong answers – so be respectful of other people’s opinions.

See you then…

Q1: Let’s start with the master of horror himself, Wes Craven. Was Nightmare on Elm Street his best work, or does something else take the top spot for you? #MTOS

Q2: What are your top three Elm Street films and what makes them stand out for you? #MTOS

Q3: Over the franchise, the films became a tad more comedic as opposed to straight horror. Do you embrace the tonal shift, or did it weaken the latter films? #MTOS

Q4:Renny Harlin, who jumped on board for the 4th film, has quite a diverse filmography. Any Harlin films you recommend folk check out? #MTOS

Q5: New Nightmare saw Craven return, and reinvent Freddy in a rather meta approach. Smart move by Craven, or would you have preferred another standard entry? #MTOS

Q6: Freddy vs Jason – a slice of horror fun, or a tragic mess? Are you a fan, and what, if anything, worked in it? #MTOS

Q7: The remake in 2010 gets a lot of negativity, but is it deserved? Is it really as bad as generally thought? #MTOS

Q8: Did you ever watch Freddy’s Nightmares, the anthology TV series in the late 80s? Any lasting memories of it, or was it best left forgotten? #MTOS

Q9: Across the franchise, what are some of your favourite kills? #MTOS

Q10: Has it been long enough to risk a revival of Freddy, given we are seeing other older horror franchises see a resurgence, or should he remain in our dreams? #MTOS
