This week for #MTOS we have another set of questions from @Dennis_Obi, which this time take a look at the locations we see used on film, and how they make us feel.
Some directors (as we have covered in past topics) use location effectively, making the setting as much of a character as the players (heck, George Lucas made the cast all look wooden, but the locations looks amazing – that’s a skill!) But there are those times when a location doesn’t fit the film, or our own personal familiarity of the location can make us harsher critics of the events being played out.
So, join us on Sunday 7th June 2020 at 8pm BST over on Twitter as we work though the following questions…
Q1: Which cities or towns always makes for some of the best landscape shots in movies – the kind that make your heart leap at the shot? #MTOS
Q2: It always adds something interesting when a film moves away from America and chooses to set the events somewhere else in the world. Favourite movies to do so? #MTOS
Q3: On the flip-side, many films have forced the story to a new location to clearly serve the global market. Which films are the worst for doing this? #MTOS
Q4: If a foreign film is set in your home country, does this entice you to watch it more? Does the curious aspect of how they portray your homeland add appeal? #MTOS
Q5: Similarly, if a film is set in your hometown, do you feel you have to see it? What do you like, and what do you dislike, about films set in your home town? #MTOS
Q6: Which large city is overused on screen in your opinion? Are there any cities you feel are more deserving of screen presence? #MTOS
