I love Los Angeles. I love Hollywood. They’re beautiful. Everybody’s plastic, but I love plastic. I want to be plastic.

Los Angeles is just New York lying down.

So, a while ago we ran an #MTOS which focussed on New York.  Towards the end of that run of questions we dabbled with comparison with Los Angeles, and the end result was quite a few of you asking for an LA themed week at some point.

So, my New Year resolutions this year included continuing to deliver #MTOS, and listening to requests and feedback to keep the chat fun.  So, here we have it, ten questions to dig down into the home of movies.

Join us at 8pm on Sunday 6th January as the first #MTOS of 2019 looks at why we heart LA so much.

  • Q1: LA is a city of contrasts, and the home of Hollywood.  Which films and/or directors do you feel capture the vibrant nature of the city the best? #MTOS
  • Q2: How important is Hollywood to the industry in this day and age?  Does the sneering attitude that gets levied at ‘typical Hollywood movies’ hold some warrant?  #MTOS
  • Q3: The Hollywood elite have been the subject of many films, fictional and non-fiction, over the years.  What are your favourite films set within the Hollywood framework?  #MTOS
  • Q4: With regards the flip-side, there are a wealth of film set in the troubled suburbs of LA.  Which stand out as the most iconic, and why? #MTOS
  • Q5: When someone says “Los Angeles” to you, what images are immediately conjured up in your head?  #MTOS
  • Q6: Okay, we did this question when we spoke about New York, so let’s do it again…Quite a lot of film titles include the city name of Los Angeles.  What are the best and worst films you can think of to contain LA in the title?   #MTOS
  • Q7: New York and LA obviously get a lot of focus in films, but which other US cities stand out for you as being iconically used in films?  Any examples to cite? #MTOS
  • Q8: Which moments in LA set films had the biggest impact on you?  Either via striking beauty, or chilling impact?   #MTOS
  • Q9: Filmmakers choosing to set their films in LA – is it just laziness, keeping the location close to the industry, or are there films in which LA itself was so important to the story that it felt like a character itself? #MTOS
  • Q10: So, you have a chance to put together an LA set film.  What genre do you pick?  Who would you get to direct it?  Do you have any cast in mind who you want in the film?   #MTOS

Movie Talk On Sunday is an initiative to get the Twitter Film Community together at one time and one day each week to discuss various film related topics. The aim of the whole exercise, besides having fun, is to find new individuals who share the same passion for films as you do and also in the process find out about the different aspects of films. You can count on finding out about new movies, interesting trivia, and who knows even gossip.

How Does It Work?

It really is simple. There are 10 questions. We will throw out 1 question relating to the week’s topic every 10 minutes starting at 20:00 UK Time every Sunday evening. All the questions and subsequent answers/discussions, by you, should simply be followed by the hash-tag #MTOS. In your Twitter “search” you can type in #MTOS and follow what everyone is saying and henceforth answer back and take part. If you “like” someone’s answer simply Re-Tweet it like you would normally on Twitter.
