Tonight’s the night, and love it or hate it, there’s no avoiding how important this night is in the industry. It is a time for a load of rich folk with more money than sense to get together, grab loads of free goodie bags filled with expensive gifts, and tell each other how amazing they all are.

Or, if you don’t wish to be cynical, it is a celebration of some of the films and creators who have impacted on the entertainment world over the past 12 months.

Yup, Oscar is here – slightly earlier than we are used to – and I, for one, will be staying awake as per usual to watch it all. Therefore, it only made sense to, once more, dedicate a topic to the awards. This time, taking a look at a selection of the categories, before rounding off with a few questions around some aspects of the Oscars themselves.

Q1: Looking at the nominations for Best Picture, which would be your pick, and why?  In addition, if just one other film could be added to the category, which one would it be? #MTOS

Q2: Best Actor category – again, which is your favourite, and who would you swap out and replace with another name from another film and why? #MTOS

Q3: Sticking with the top categories, Best Actress – Which is the most deserving in the list, and again, if you could swap one out, who would you pick and replace with someone else? #MTOS

Q4: The Animated Feature category – is it a cert that Toy Story will take home the award, or are your hopes with one of the other four films? #MTOS

Q5: I adore a good score (which has been covered in a whole topic previously) – so always consider the Original Score category as important.  So, which of the nominations impacted and drove the film the best this year? #MTOS

Q6: The Directing award deserves to go to which name out of the nominations?  Which one name missing from the shortlist is a terrible oversight? #MTOS

Q7: With the prominence of The Irishman amongst the categories, is it safe to say Spielberg was misguided when he suggested Netflix films be omitted from selection, or is there still some truth to his words? #MTOS

Q8: This is the second year in a row where the show will be host-less.  Did you watch last year, and did the event suffer from a lack of an individual host?  Or, maybe, you feel it benefits from having no host? #MTOS

Q9: Speculation over new potential categories came up last year.  Is a shake up needed?  If so, what awards should be added, and what should be removed?  Are there any that should be merged? #MTOS

Q10: Finally, are you watching the awards tonight?  If so, are you watching alone, or having a party around it?  How are you following the Oscars? #MTOS
