Last year The Independant ran an article which ranked the 11 actors who played ‘Santa’ – now number 11 was Billy Bob Thornton in Bad Santa, but he wasn’t playing the actual role, just someone dressing as Santa. So, I ignored that one, and decided to use the other ten for us to talk about.

So, for this week’s topic, we take a look at the rundown, starting with the one ranked highest. Each entry will give a chance to talk about their wider body of work, or their performance in the film itself. As it is the season of goodwill, the primary focus is on the best roles these actors have been in, the ones you love and want to share with others.

Q7: Ed Ivory hasn’t had an extensive career, but he was the voice for Santa in The Nightmare Before Christmas.  Now, debate time – is this a Christmas film, or is it a Halloween film….or something else? Let the arguments begin…. #MTOS

Q8: In 2014, Jim Broadbent was cast in the role for Get Santa.  Broadbent has had an extensive career – what are his star roles that you love the most, and why?  #MTOS
