#MTOS Presents: MARVEL

It’s probably apt that this line of questions will be going out whilst I’m not around to join in, given my current stance on all things Disney.  It would just remind me of what I’m going to miss now I’m boycotting them.

SIDE NOTE: For those unaware, I am boycotting Disney on a matter of principle.  Letting a right-wing rape-apologist force out a director who made some bad-taste jokes (which were taken out of the context they were posted) over a decade ago, and who had apologised for his taste in shock-humour before he was hired (heck, the guy was a Troma alumnus, and surely Disney had seen his earlier films?) just doesn’t sit right with me.  If they stand by the idea that James Gunn doesn’t suit their principles, then it doesn’t suit my principles to support Disney – especially given that they are still more than happy to use his submitted script for GotG3 if and when that film gets made (his words don’t represent them, but the words he wrote will?  Sorry, I don’t buy that level of hypocrisy).  This means Infinity War was the last Marvel film I saw, and I will not be watching any more – which as a lifelong Marvel fan, that is a tough cookie to swallow!

Anyway, that aside, Marvel rights are currently in the ownership of three parties for the big screen – Sony, Fox, and Disney (although the last two are set to become one, and the first has been working with another, but hey….that’s showbiz).  So this week’s #MTOS will look at the output of the three studios, and see whether my boycott came at the right time, or whether I’m cutting my nose off to spite my face!  I mean, look at how the films have played out, what has worked, and what hasn’t, and whether comic-book fatigue has set in yet.

Join us on Sunday 30th September at 8pm UK time on Twitter to discuss Marvel On Film.

Q1: Let’s start with Fox.  As holders of the rights to X-Men and Fantastic Four, have they served any of the material well, or is the imminent absorbing into the Disney family a well needed action? #MTOS

Q2: Have they simply mishandled the Fantastic Four license, and if so how, or is that aspect of Marvel Comics just not good in and of itself? #MTOS

Q3: The studio were more successful with the X-Men franchise.  What order would you rank the films (including spin-offs) and why? #MTOS

Q4: Over to Sony – Holders of the Spider-Man rights, there have been three separate franchise outings for the character so far.  Who was your favourite Peter Parker/Spider-Man?  #MTOS

Q5: Rank the Spider-Man movies in order of preference, and discuss your reasoning for the choices. #MTOS

Q6: Now they are working with the Disney-Marvel branch on Spider-Man, Sony are expanding out with a range of characters from the comics – the first of which is the imminent Venom film.  Are you excited for any of the proposed outings planned, or should they stick to working with Disney-Marvel? #MTOS

Q7: So, we come to the Disney MCU – Ten years of films – have we had enough?  Surely it’s all become a bit repetitive and tired by now?  Yeah? #MTOS

Q8: Okay, given the answers to the previous question, which films stand at the defining moments in the MCU?  What are the high points and what made them click so well? #MTOS

Q9: What are the low points, and where did they go wrong? #MTOS

Q10: The MCU are still exploring characters, well known or obscure, in their films.  Are there any characters you want to see on the big screen alongside the current ‘Avengers’ or ‘Guardians’?  Which ones already on screen should they not bring back after Thanos’ finger-snap?  Which didn’t go who should? #MTOS
