I actually didn’t intend for this week to be about Zucker Abrahams and Zucker films (ZAZ) at first. I’ve actually got half the questions typed out for a ‘Buddy Cops’ topic (watch for that in the next couple of weeks). However, whilst coming up with them, I got to thinking about the comedy aspect of those films, then started writing some questions about comedy films (watch for that general topic at some point), before realising I’d used 3 of the 6 questions I’d jotted down to chat about ZAZ films. So, I spun off from that idea to look specifically at ZAZ.
Well known for their comedies with exclamation marks (Airplane!, Hot Shots!, Top Secret!, Naked Gun!), the trio have individually also tackled a scattering of other films, including a couple not easily identifiable as part of their output. Pretty much everyone I’ve ever spoken to has at least one of their films in their regular ‘go-to’ film for one reason or another (for me, it is Airplane! – if I need a laugh, that’s my first port of call…in fact, I’m going to watch it as soon as I’ve finished typing this up). But is everything they have released good, or are there some stinkers?
