And so The Purge films get to the fifth film, and this time some right wing ‘patriots’ are causing more mayhem! The NFFA are back in power, and reinstate The Purge. The film focuses on a mexican community who are made up of folk who fled Mexico – but now find themselves targeted during the Purge. But, confined in their safe havens, they survive to the morning….only to find that a force of white nationals have decided that the Purge should continue until anyone impure is wiped out!
The manner in which the Purge films approaches elements of our own social and political world, and exaggerates them is one element of the films I continue to have some time for – and here, the immigration, and wall building policies are explored, as is the horrifying idea of what could happen if a certain person comes into power again – having seen the events early this year play out, it isn’t too far a stretch.

This means that predictability is the name of the game, and whilst well executed, having been down this road a few times already it just feels a little regurgitated. You can’t even argue that it should be viewed as a film in its own right as it requires understanding of the previous films in order to understand the rules and the motives.
Dedicated fans of the series only should check this out, but for me, the first and third films were the most interesting.
