Plot: The Addams get tangled up in more wacky adventures and find themselves involved in hilarious run-ins with all sorts of unsuspecting characters. Sequel to the 2019 animated film, 'The Addams Family'.

The first animated outing was a surprise joy, inspired much more by the old comic strips, only with a modern twist, than the TV series or movies.  So I was pleased to get a chance to spend time with the creepiest and kookiest family around once more for a sequel.  This time, Wednesday starts to have thoughts that maybe she doesn’t belong in the family, and when a lawyer comes claiming that she was switched at birth and may not be an Addams it all starts to make sense for her.  Gomez, however, refuses to accept this and insists on a family road trip to bond the gang once more.

This is National Lampoon’s Addams Vacation pretty much – a dysfunctional family taking a road trip because the father insists it will make them close as a result – and the added sub-plot of Wednesday believing she isn’t part of the family, and a scientist who is impressed by her work on genetics modifications (an experiment on Fester forming a running gag through the film) – and I’m more than happy with it.  An excuse for different hijinx in different locations, it is zany, and yes childish, fun, and I had a great time with it.

The voice cast all add solid personality to the roles – OScar Isaac as Gomez, Chalize Theron as Morticia, Chloe Grace Moretz and Wednesday, Nick Kroll as Fester, Javon Walton as Pugsley – and whilst Bette Midler doesn’t get a lot to do as Gradmama (she remains at home and has a house party) she still drops a few zingers of lines.

Overall, this is a film with a young target audience, and if you are willing to embrace the childish antics of the whole thing, much like the first film there’s a lot of fun to be had.  If not…well…maybe wait for Tim Burton’s reimagining Tv series instead.
