Over the past few decades, Kathryn Bigelow has made a mark on cinema, even though her total output as director can be counted on two hands. But as a true example of quality over quantity, Bigelow’s forays into horror (Near Dark) and action (Blue Steel and Point Break) are highly regarded as some of the finest examples of the genres. With forays into other genres also, and more recently for politically infused historical drama, her career has had its ups and downs – but let’s not forget, this is the woman who stopped James Cameron for getting big awards for his smurfs in space film.
